Brief

As more and more consumers turn to online shopping, it's becoming increasingly important for small businesses like Sweet Epico to have an e-commerce presence. It helps reaching a wider audience, increases sales, and improve customer convenience.

In this project, we'll explore some of the key benefits of e-commerce, our research, the different methods we used and finally discuss how Sweet Epico pastry shop can get started with their current online store.

Goal

As more and more consumers turn to online shopping, it's becoming increasingly important for small businesses like Sweet Epico to have an e-commerce presence. It helps reaching a wider audience, increases sales, and improve customer convenience.

In this project, we'll explore some of the key benefits of e-commerce, our research, the different methods we used and finally discuss how Sweet Epico pastry shop can get started with their current online store.

User Research

We conducted an interview to the pastry shop’s owner to identify the business's strengths and weaknesses as well as external opportunities and threats. This helped us to identify areas that required improvement and potential opportunities to explore. We also, analyzed trends, patterns, and issues that could be affecting the business's online sales, one of them the website being completely not updated. Goal will be to improve the online ordering process for Monica and her customers to increase sales and exposure.
One of the biggest challenges has been competing with larger, more established e-commerce retailers. It's hard to get noticed in the online space when there are so many other options out there.
She had some difficulty with shipping logistics, updating our current website and finding a reliable and cost-effective way to get our pastries to customers outside of our local area.
She wants to change her logo colors of website and branding content.

She provide us all colors and logos and we work with those colors while designing website.
She highlighted the importance of a clean, modern, and visually appealing website design that resonates with the bakery's brand.
She requested an interactive cake customization tool that allows customers to choose flavors, designs, and decorations while placing their orders.
She expressed the need for a streamlined online ordering system that simplifies the checkout process for customers, including options for both pickup and delivery.
She has been trying to increase her online sales for the past year, but She has definitely encountered some challenges along the way.
She emphasized the need for the website to reflect the bakery's commitment to quality, creativity, and personalized customer experiences and add new products.
Highlight customer testimonials and reviews on the website to build trust and credibility among potential customers.

Competitors

We looked at the business's competitors and how they are performing in the online space. Identifying their strengths and weaknesses, and evaluating the strategies they are using to drive sales.
Sweet Epico has other local pastry shops or bakeries that offer a similar range of products, such as cakes, pastries, and crepes. One in particular is D’Bakers; being the direct competitor because both share location, similar products and as well as, online shop that deliver baked goods directly to customers, catering desserts for events and/or special occasions. According to Monica Sweet Epico’s owner, what makes her shop different from D’Bakers are the quality products she uses to make pastries, size of products and price being Sweet Epico’s bigger size, yummier and price.

Storytelling and Values; Develop an "About Us" section that shares the bakery's story, emphasizing the use of premium ingredients and artisanal craftsmanship to build a connection with customers.

Interactive Content; Integrate a blog, social media feeds, and live chat support to engage visitors, share baking tips, showcase creations, and provide real-time assistance.

Seamless Ordering; Streamline the online ordering process with clear product information, transparent pricing, and secure payment options, encouraging customers to complete their orders with confidence.

Addressing this comprehensive problem statement will enable Sweet Epico Bakery to meet user expectations, achieve business objectives, and create a robust online platform that enhances customer satisfaction, drives conversions, and strengthens the bakery's online presence.

In her free time, Carolina loves to explore Miami's vibrant food scene, especially when it comes to desserts. She enjoys trying new bakeries and pastry shops, and she loves taking her kids along to share in the experience.

Behaviors

Carolina goes frequently because the store is located in her neighborhood, she love spending some quality time with her kids plus the whole plaza is great to have a chill time with friends and family. Some of the reasons for Carolina to buy sweets at Sweet Epico include the high quality and freshness of the baked goods, the variety of flavors and options available, the use of high-quality ingredients.

Only thing is that sometimes she does not have enough time to order in person and wants to order online instead but has difficulties ordering because items may be out of stock or it is a hustle to get what she is craving because their website is not updated.

Wants & Needs

Carolina would love to have the option to order online for the days she is unable to visit the shop, or it’s a rainy day. it's important for businesses to keep their websites updated to ensure a positive customer experience and avoid confusion or frustration.

Key Learning

E-commerce is a powerful tool for small businesses, offering expanded reach, increased sales, and convenience for both (the business and its customers). By following these steps and getting started with an online store, Sweet Epico pastry shop can now jump into the benefits of e-commerce and grow its business.
  • Keep the design simple and avoid unnecessary complexity. Users should be able to understand the interface quickly without confusion.

  • Use color, typography, and spacing to differentiate between different types of content.

  • Maintain consistent branding elements (colors, fonts, logo) across the entire e-commerce site to build trust and recognition with users.
